Ernestine Lyles Duncan transitioned from this life to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Monday, October 16, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center.  Ernestine was the first born to Ernest and Mable Lyles on August 12, 1928 in Winston-Salem, NC.

She attended the Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Atkins H.S. Class of 1944 at the age of fifteen.  She graduated from Creedmoor University in NY State in 1959 as a Registered Nurse.  She resided in Meriden, CT with her husband, Leroy Duncan for many years and during that time she received a BA in Sociology from the University of Hartford in 1977.  She retired after a 30 year career in nursing, which she loved.  She always wanted higher learning and took courses at Yale University School of Theology.  She loved Winston-Salem and returned to earn a BS in Nursing from Winston-Salem State University in 1995.  Ernestine was an avid reader, loved learning, talking politics, talking all the time, and had a zest for life.

Ernestine leaves many precious memories to cherish her daughter, Alma Duncan of the home; two loving sisters, Helen L. Harris of the city and Rosa L. Goodman of Suffolk, VA; many nieces, nephews, and a special Godson.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Union Baptist Church, 1200 Trade St. W-S, NC with Bishop Sir Walter Mack, Jr. Pastor and Dr. Kia Hood officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.  The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church.

The family wishes to thank her doctors, nurses, and staff at FMC 8th Floor Nephrology; Piedmont Dialysis Center; and Trinity Glen for the wonderful kindnesses and care provided.
