Ernest Gene Humphries passed away on July 22, 2017 after an extended illness. He was born August 7, 1931 in Danville, VA and has resided in Winston Salem since 1938.
Mr. Humphries was educated in the WS Forsyth County Schools and graduated from
Atkins HS in 1949.  He was employed with the city of Winston Salem and retired in 1985.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Beatrice Humphries; two brothers, James Green and Charles Humphries; five sisters, Katie Ballou, Mary Brown, Beatrice Halton, Maggie Gunner, and Elnora Martin; one daughter, Izonia Humphries; and his first wife, Janie Stevens Humphries.
He is survived by his wife and devoted companion, Sharon Wilson Humphries; daughters, Earnestine Coles of Laurel, MD and Shanika Wilson of W-S, NC; sons, Ernest G. Humphries, III, Billy G. Allen of Charlotte, NC,  Shane L. Allen, and Bobby Glenn; grandchildren, Tina and Tracy Coles, Erica Allen, Billy Allen, Jr, Shawane Murchison, Shane Allen Jr. Kara Dunlap, Callie Wilson, and Makia McRae; two sisters, Helene H. Livingston of W-S, NC and Alease Madden of Newport News, VA;  Ernest was blessed with a large, caring extended family of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church with Reverend Johnny Ruff officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 1:30pm until 2:00pm on Thursday at the Church.
