Brother Eric Tyrone Turner "AKA RED," departed his earthly home and transitioned to his heavenly home to rest on October 07, 2023, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home with family at his bedside.
Eric Tyrone Turner was born on September 13, 1970, to Bishop Claude C. Turner and Lady Carolyn (Turner) Stowe in Winston-Salem, NC.
Eric was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mrs. Daisy Sloan Ligons and Mr. McCombs Ligons; his maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Ardie Sloan King; and paternal grandparents, Mrs. Lillie Wards Turner and Bishop Fred Lee Turner, Sr.
Eric attended Winston-Salem/Forsyth Public Schools, where he graduated from North Forsyth High School. "Eric excelled in track and field and ran for North Forsyth High School and the Tri-City Relay." In 1995, in Philadelphia, PA, he started a track team named the Blue Wave Track Team. So many people loved him, and he loved people. Eric studied at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, NC. He went to Winston Salem State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree with magna cum laude distinction. He was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
Eric was an American Airlines, Inc. employee in Winston-Salem, NC. He taught continued education classes for adult students to achieve their GED at Forsyth Technical Community College.
He loved music, singing, and playing the organ for his church at Calvary Hill Church of Greater Deliverance, Inc. In 1979, Eric was honored with naming Calvary Hill Church, his parents Bishop Claude Turner and Lady Carolyn (Turner) Stowe first church in Belton, South Carolina.
He leaves to cherish dear and precious memories his mother, Lady Carolyn (Pastor Donald) Stowe, Jr.; his father, Bishop Claude (Lady Virginia) Turner; his two sisters, Tonya Ranee (Pastor Kevin) Jackson, Sr. of Lusby, MD and Jacinta Devona (Christopher) Mitchell of the city; two step sisters, Monica Stowe, of Dover Delaware and Kondra (Kelvin) Rattley of Charlotte, NC; two step brothers, Donald Stowe III and Jermaine Marlin, both of the city; his three nieces, Meagan Turner, Taylor Jackson, and Michayla Jackson, all of Lusby, MD; one nephew, Kevin L. Jackson, Jr. of Washington, DC; maternal aunts, Linda Ligons and Beverly Ligons; maternal uncles, Rev. Willie James (Marian) Smith, Sr. of Anderson SC; paternal uncles, John Turner, Robert Turner, James (Regina) Turner, and Paul Turner; paternal aunts, Pattie (Marvin) Fairley, Jeanette Turner, and Diane (Bishop Leviticus) Fordham, Sr., all of the city; three bonus aunts, Rosetta (Ronald) Dennis, Debbie (Kevin) Gary, and Alma Campbell, all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and a host of family, friends, and a special devoted friend, Tondra Davis.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Friday, October 13, 2023 at Calvary Hill Church of Greater Deliverance with Bishop Claude C. Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Friday at the Church.
