Mr. Eric K. Hunter was born to Odessa and the late William M. Hunter of Brooklyn, NY on December 29, 1949. He departed this earthly life on November 28, 2012.
He attended the public schools of New York, received his BA degree at Benedict College in Columbia, SC, and his Master's degree in Sociology from Winston-Salem State University. Eric received the name "Jolly" in college because of his outgoing personality and kindred spirit. At WSSU he was a dorm superintendent and counselor of ESR "Experiment in Self Reliance." While at WSSU, his mentor was Mr. James Dixon, who continued to give him positive guidance throughout his life. Eric was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Eric leaves to cherish his memories his loving son, Kenneth J. Hunter of Columbia, SC; his daughter, Mercy Johnson of Washington, DC; his mother, Odessa Hunter of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother, William "Bill" Hunter (Jeanne) of Wilson, NC; three grandchildren, Kennedy and Kamauri Hunter, and Divine Johnson; two nephews, Shawn and Joshua Hunter; a devoted cousin, Darryl Ray; three special friends, Lional James, Olufemi Olulenu, and John Lucas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Friendship Baptist Church with Reverend Stacey Frazier officiating. The family visitation will be held from 10:30am until 11am on Wednesday at the Church.
