Mrs. Emma J. Hutchins Young was born to the late Martha and Oran Hutchins on May 22, 1941. She expired on May 19, 2012 in the Palliative Care Unit at Wake Forest Baptist Health, after a ten year battle with cancer.

She was a native of Forsyth Co. and was educated in the public school system, graduating from Atkins High School in 1959.

She received formal training that prepared her for administrative duties and most importantly "how to treat and handle people!" She retired from the city of W-S after 26+ years of service, where she was continuously recognized for her excellent customer service.

She was very instrumental in the community by volunteering her time to organizations such as S.C.A.N, Women's Center (mentoring young mothers), and from a distance she was feeding the children.

Emma was a faithful member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she loved to worship under the leadership of Dr. C.E. and Mrs. Gray.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Cecil Young, Sr.

Emma is survived by her children whom she loved until death, Albert Cecil, Jr., Cecilia Evette, Sabrina Lovell, and Rev. Christopher Brevard Young; grandchildren, (Albert) Porche and Kamora, (Cecilia) Edmond "Rod", Keena, Kaliyah, and Michael, (Sabrina) Chastidy and Alfonzo, III, and (Christopher) Robert; seven great- grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Pearline Fields; one aunt, Ms. Minnie Speas; in-laws, Lonnie Wellman, Doris Jones, Future Williams, and Marilyn Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 12:30pm Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Dr. C.E. Gray officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 12:30pm on Saturday at the Church.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to all of her professional angels, Dr. Flippin, Dr. Vatca, R. McQuellon, PhD, Yoon Jung, MSP, and the entire staff at the Comprehensive Cancer Center.
