Emma Jean King Wilkes, "Poke Chop" was born October 24, 1934. She passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, April 29, 2011. Emma was born and raised in Winston Salem, NC and graduated from Atkins High School in 1952. She last worked for Grass America Inc. where she retired in 1995.
She was one of four children born to the late Eddie and Francis Wynn and was the beloved spouse of the late Gilbert Wilkes for over 30 years.
Emma touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity, and maintained her trademark sense of humour all the way to the end.
Emma was preceded in death by her siblings, Milton King, Norman King, and Eleanor Hopkins; and beloved son, Keevan "1/2 Pint" Wilkes.
She leaves behind a loving daughter, Yvonne Wilkes; four treasured grandchildren, Thomas and Nicole Wilkes, Raushaunah and Antwan Rhyne; 9 great-grand children; and countless other friends and family who were blessed to know her.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, May 4, 201 at Russell's Funeral Home Chapel. The family visitation will be held from 10:30am until 11:00am on Wednesday at Chapel.
