Elverta Lurine Joyner Lewis, affectionately known as "TC", was born on November 25, 1951 in Islandton (Colleton County), South Carolina to the late Mr. Freddie Joyner, Sr. and Mrs. Louise Jamison Joyner.  She attended the public schools of Colleton County and continued her education at the Technical College of the Lowcountry.  At an early age, Elverta accepted Christ and became a member of the Deep Creek Missionary Baptist Church.  "TC" relocated to Winston Salem in 1982 and continued her walk with the Lord by joining the Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church.  She was employed with Salem Kitchen for several years until her health began to decline.

On February 14, 2003, Elverta was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Harvey Lewis.  Together, they had two sons, Andre and Michael, and were eventually blessed with a daughter-in-law, Lindsay and three grandchildren.

Elverta was re-united in death with her beloved sons, Mr. Andre L. Joyner and Mr. Michael Joyner; and her parents and siblings, Mr. Freddie (Mary Ann) Joyner, Jr., Ms. Louvenia Joyner, Mr. Thomas Joyner, Mrs. Mildred (Levon) Scott, and Mr. Donald (Sharon) Joyner.

Elverta's memory will be forever cherished by her devoted husband, Deacon Harvey Lewis;   granddaughter, Michaela L. Joyner; grandsons, Jamison and Justin Joyner; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lindsay Joyner; sisters, Ms. Juanita J. Richardson, Mrs. Carolyn (Larry) Capers, Ms. Betty A. Joyner, Mrs. Joyce (Rickey) Bowman and Ms. Gale Joyner; brothers, Mr. Larry (Sylvia) Joyner and Mr. Lyndon Joyner; Elverta will be missed by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-laws, relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Sheldon McCarter officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:00noon on Thursday at the Chapel.
