Mrs. Elise T. Lowe was born July 21, 1918 in Heath Springs, South Carolina to the late Willie Truesdale and Pearl Haley Truesdale. She was educated in the Lancaster County school system. As a young adult Mrs. Lowe relocated to Winston Salem, North Carolina. In her later years, she was united in holy matrimony to James E. Lowe, who preceded her in death in 2002. She was employed at RJ Reynolds for the majority of her career, until her retirement.
Mrs. Lowe joined Hanes Memorial CME Church in 1942 under the pastorate of the late Reverend Langford. She transferred her membership from Pleasant Hill AME Zion Church in Heath Springs, South Carolina. During the 72 years that she was a faithful member of Hanes Memorial, she was a member of Stewardess Board #4, the Bessie Taylor Missionary Circle #4, was a past member of the Inspirational Chorus for over 30 years, a Bible Study student, a former member of the Commission on Membership and Evangelism, and a member of the Women's Missionary Society. Mrs. Lowe was a faithful supporter of Hanes Memorial. She often came back to evening services and traveled with the church when she could.
Mrs. Lowe was survived by, and left to cherish her memories are her nieces; Norma King of Teaneck, NJ, Connie Patterson of Teaneck, NJ, Helen Cauthen of Englewood, NJ, Rosa Ann Cunningham of Englewood, NJ; and nephews; Henry (Rogers) Truesdale of Heath Spring, SC, Hiwartha (Donald) Truesdale of Chester, SC; nieces in law, Annett Johnson, and Karen Hawkins; numerous great nieces and great nephews; friends, church members and neighbors who cared for and supported her. All of whom will miss her generosity and caring, warm spirit.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Hanes Memorial CME Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The viewing will be held from 11am until 12noon on Tuesday at the Church.
