Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Mrs. Elizabeth Johnston Yarbrough, 92, affectionately known to all as "MUH", of The Oaks Nursing Facility, transitioned from earth to eternity on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was one of three children born to Thomas and Gertrude Brooks Johnston on December 14, 1919.
A native of Winston-Salem, NC where she attended the Forsyth County Public School System; she was an employee of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company for more than 40 years and retired.
Next to God and her family was her love for Shiloh Baptist Church, where she faithfully served on the Usher Board Ministry and Sunday school until her health failed. Her greatest joy was being a door keeper in the house of the Lord.
Mrs. Yarbrough was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Gertrude Johnston; her daughter, Dorothy Brandon; and her grandson, Vernard Yarbrough.
Surviving to cherish her precious memories are a son, William Yarbrough, Jr. and his father, William Yarbrough, Sr.; a devoted granddaughter, Pamela A. Brandon-Morgan (Tyrone); granddaughter, Janice Yarbrough Hawkins of Capitol Heights, MD; a devoted niece, Priscilla J. Dixon of Kernersville, NC; four great-grandchildren, Natisha and Rashidah Brandon, Evelyn and Alicia Hawkins of Capitol Heights, MD; four great-great-grandchildren; two nephews, Donald Phillips of Philadelphia, PA and Ronald Johnston, Sr. of the city; and a host of other nieces and nephews, other relatives and many, many, friends. To God be the glory for the wonderful life that she lived.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Friday, March 9, 2012 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Dr. Paul A. Lowe, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Pulmonary Staff 8th Floor, Nurses and Staff of the CICU unit 3, and the Palliative Care Team ICU at Forsyth Medical Center.
