Obituary

On the peaceful evening of Tuesday, December 15, 2015, our heavenly father searched his lovely flower garden again and brought home his most beautiful flower to go to her heavenly place to rest for eternity, Mrs. Elizabeth Patten.

Mrs. Elizabeth Williams Gray Paten was born September 19, 1920 to Mr. Nichols Williams and Mrs. Naomi Hill Williams. Mrs. Patten was born in Winston-Salem, NC and was educated in the Winston-Salem Public Schools and went on to graduate from then the Winston-Salem Teachers College. She taught school in the Forsyth County School System for 17 years as a first grade teacher.
Mrs. Patten was a pillar in the community in which she lived for 95 years and everyone who knew her could not help but to love her. Her demeanor about life and her Christian beliefs were beyond measure. Upon meeting with her once, you could never forget "Mudda" and she knew no strangers. She loved everyone and always had a kind word for them but never hesitated to speak about her most beloved Jesus Christ. She always pressed her way to Mt. Olive Baptist Church until her health began to fail her and then she still tried to get to church anyway.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters; and other relatives.

Mrs. Patten leaves to cherish her memories her children, Minister George (Gloria) Gray of the city, Ms. Darinda Boston of the city, Delbert (Bonita) Gray of the city, Minister Arsola Williams of the city, Robert (Terri) Gray of Charleston, SC, Elaine (Alan) Bauer of Charlotte, NC, Carolyn Sutton of the city, Christine (Freddie) Whitaker of the city, and Marvin (Karen) Gray of the city; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. Kie (Betty) Gray; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; cousins, numerous relatives and close friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Charles Gray officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Tuesday at the Church.
