Elizabeth Martina Deramus was born to the late Mathias and Grace France on June 16, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY. She attended primary schools in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Eli-Whitney Vocational High School. Upon graduating, she worked at an insurance company, the bank, and finally Con Edison. Elizabeth served over twenty years at Con Edison. She started in public relations and advanced to an Executive Secretary for the President of the company where she retired.
Elizabeth was a proud member of the community in which she lived. She received an award for her community service in 1985. The following year she received the Woman of the Year Award. Elizabeth was also a contributor to the Negro College Fund.
Elizabeth was called home to be with the Lord on December 22, 2020.
She is survived by her son, Kevin France; granddaughters, Devonaye and Alaya France; great-granddaughters, Laila and Sanai; sisters, Filomena Cutler and Dorothy Ancrum; cousins, Brenda Ross, Dennis, Jerry, and Allen Thompson; longtime companion, Ralph Brown; closest friends, Nina Manier, Mary Brown, Emma Dixon, Gladys Samuel, Alfreda Sales-Fairnot, Ben Glascoe, and Rodney Green; and a host of other family members and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home.
Private services will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2020.
