Edward L. Towner II, affectionally known as “Chuckie”, was born on January 6, 1949, in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Edward Lorenza and Marjorie Towner. Chuckie spent his formative years in Buffalo, New York. He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and his family attended Durham Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church.
He was educated in the Buffalo Public School System, graduating from East High School in 1967 where he was a standout guard for the basketball team. He also played with the Tiaras All-Star Basketball team, which was one of the oldest and most prestigious basketball teams in Buffalo, NY. He was a longtime Commissioner over the Kensington Panthers Little League also in Buffalo NY.
After completing high school, Chuckie enlisted in the US Air Force in 1968 where he served as an aircraft mechanic in Plattsburgh, NY. He worked for 21 years at Eastern Airlines as a Ramp Supervisor until they ceased operations. In addition, he owned Dr. Shine shoe parlor in the Radisson Hotel in Buffalo NY. He joined Carpenters Local #9 in Buffalo NY and Carpenters Local #312 in North Carolina.
Chuckie relocated to Winston Salem, NC and worked at multiple jobs including Marshall’s, Goodwill, and provided security at various events with Show Pros Entertainment Services. He was employed on a full-timebasis at First Presbyterian Church. Chuckie was a “jack of all trades” and brought the same relentless leadership and work ethic to every job.
Chuckie married Sabrina Jackson on August 4, 2011. As devoted soulmates, they filled their years together with travel, lively parties, and a shared passion for fashion.
He was the rare kind of man who matches his sharp, impeccable style with an incredibly warm heart. While his look was always polished, his personality was pure fun and energy. He was fiercely generous, always the first to offer a helping hand and the last to take credit for it.
On August 27, 2026, Chuckie entered eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 16 years, Sabrina Towner; two devoted sons by Rita Roberts, Edward L. (Natasha) Towner III and Anthony L. Towner of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Montell Francis, Keara Towner, Emory Towner, Rashamel Hall, and Aniyaah Towner; great-grandchildren, Erik Francis and Kennedy Lawrence; his siblings, Carol Ford of Oxon Hill, MD, Gloria (Howard) Clowers of Buffalo, NY, Nina Towner of Winston-Salem, NC, and William Sulaiman (Elise) Towner of Buffalo, NY; close friends, George Holt of Sugarland, TX, Leroi Johnson of Buffalo, NY, Oliver Sweeney of Greensboro, NC, Rick Brown of Sarasota, FL, and Thomas James of Buffalo, NY ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
