Mr. Edrick L. Brown affectionately known as "Duke" to family and friends, began his earthly life on January 27, 1962. He was born in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Mr. & Mrs. William and Jane Ester Hailstock Brown. He began a new life on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, when God sent his heavenly angels to beckon his son, "Duke to put on his new robe and come home to glory."
He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior at an early age, and his favorite scripture was Psalm 23. He attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and graduated from South Park High School. Duke was employed by the City of Winston-Salem for many years before his health failed. He was married to Dietra Johnson.
He had a calm and quiet spirit. He loved his family. Some of the things he enjoyed doing was a dressing sharp and making sure everything around him was neat and clean. Those that encountered him to be very personable and courteous.
He leaves to cherish many fond memories of him his caretaker and devoted sister, Cathey Hailstock; a sister, Sheila (Fred) Sparks of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother, Willie Hailstock of Baltimore, MD; two devoted nieces, Latonya Hailstock and Zena Scott of Winston-Salem, NC; two nieces, Deidre Underwood and Shawn Hailstock both of Mitchellville, MD; two nephews, Willie Hailstock, Jr. of Mitchellville, MD and Jujuan Hailstock from Laurel, MD; a devoted friend, Marilyn James of Winston-Salem, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Saturday, October 24, 2009 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelist Sharon Pinkney officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 11:30am on Saturday at the funeral home.
