On Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the age of 79, Edna Lee Taylor Mumford departed this life peacefully at Forsyth Medical Center .
She was born on March 19, 1928, in Winston-Salem , NC to Robert and Edna T. Cowan. She attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public Schools and was a retiree of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System.
She was a dedicated member of New Bethel Baptist Church until her failing health. She was an active member of the Ruth Chapter # 3 Missionary Circle , Cathedral Choir, the Effort Club and an active member of the Stokes Avenue Community Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She leaves to cherish her memories her spouse of sixty years Willie J. Mumford; a loving, devoted aunt, Cora Joyner; six daughters; Patricia Mumford, Willie Kay (Otis) Hawkins, Sandra Carter, Irene Weaks, Amanda (Bernard) Bowman, and Shirley (Charles) Watkins all of the city; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at Noon on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Dr. Kendall Jones, Sr. officiating and Emeritus Dr. Jerry Drayton. Internment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens . Family visitation will be held from 11:00am until Noon on Tuesday at the Church.
