Obituary

On September 2, 1964 Nathaniel and Maggie Parker gave birth to a baby girl named Edie Renae Parker Oliver aka "Naynay Parker." She entered into eternal rest on December 31, 2021.

Edie grew up in Astoria, Queens, NY and graduated from W.C. Bryant High School. She was employed at NYPD as a 911 dispatcher until her health started to decline.

Edie was married to the late Johnnie Oliver, Jr. who passed away in November 2008.

In June of 2009, Edie decided to relocate to Winston-Salem, North Carolina with her three children.

She then started attending services at the First Calvary Baptist Church of Winston-Salem, before joining as a member of The Missionary and Usher board, where she remained a faithful servant until she could no longer serve.

Edie was always eager to help others. She was a very kindhearted, compassionate, loving and caring person. She earned the greatest respect and appreciation of her family; never complaining. She will be greatly missed.

Edie fought a long fight with her sickness for the past 20 years.

Edie was preceded in death by both of her parents, Nathaniel and Maggie Parker; her husband, Johnnie Oliver, Jr.; and a sister, Barbara Ann Chatman.

Edie leaves to cherish her loving memory her children, Ranell Holmes (Tiffany Abrams), Javon Oliver, and Jahnae Oliver; her two granddaughters, Serenity and SeKiylah Holmes; her two sisters, Margaret (Elliot) Roseborough of Greensboro, NC and Natasha (Stephen) Yearwood of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two brothers, Earl (Carol) Chatman of Branchville, SC and Nathaniel (Charlmain) Parker of Long Island City, NY; a foster sister, Desiree Lopez of Stamford, CT; nine nephews; four nieces; aunts; uncles; cousins who she loved dearly; and two godsons, Daniel Wise and James Adams.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Friday, January 7, 2022 at First Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Derwin Montgomery officiating. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:00noon on Friday at the Church.
