Edelina "Ed" Miller Oliphant was born Dec 24, 1954 to the late Ernest B. and Marguerite W. Miller in Greensboro, NC. She is the youngest of three children. She took her heavenly flight on July 12, 2020.
Edelina grew up attending Guilford County Public Schools and she was awarded a scholarship to attend Margaret Hall Preparatory School. After completion of the program, she returned home to Greensboro and attended Bennett College where she completed a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology and also received her Certification in Medical Technology from Bowman Gray School of Medicine. While attending Bennett College, Edelina became a member of the Omicron Delta Chapter of THE Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
On November 5, 1977, Edelina married the love of her life, Roy Oliphant and from this union came three daughters, Tameka, Treva, and Tonya.
Edelina began working for Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, now Wake Forest Baptist Health, in 1976 and gave 41 years of dedicated service, teaching and training others as the Manager of the CORE Lab. Although Edelina was a full-time working mother, she never missed an academic or athletic event involving her daughters. Edelina was active in her community and church, caring for children and those around her. She was affectionately known as "Momma O" and "Granna", and everyone knew she would always welcome them into her home. In her "spare time", Edelina enjoyed reading novels, playing Scrabble with her friends, putting together puzzles, traveling with her husband (and children) or spending time at home watching a good crime drama on television.
From a child, Edelina attended church regularly at St. Stephens United Church of Christ in Greensboro, NC. After relocating to Winston-Salem, Edelina, along with her husband, became members of the Carver Road Church of Christ where she was an active member. Edelina dedicated her time in ministry: teaching bible study classes, singing in the choir, serving meals during church events, providing support to other church members and supporting her husband who is an Elder at the congregation. Edelina also instilled a love for the Lord and ministry within her children.
Edelina was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest B. Miller and Marguerite Wilkes Miller; and two granddaughters, Jordyn Grimes and Taylor Loyd.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Oliphant; three daughters, Tameka (Justin) Grimes, Treva (Thomas, Jr.) Loyd, and Tonya (Jonathan) Bellanger; sister, Yvonne Jackson; brother, William (Mary) Covington; dedicated nephews, Willie (Tiffani) Jackson, Jr. and Brian Jackson; beloved dog, Que Psi Phi Oliphant; and a host of treasured Granna's babies, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A public viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be held Monday, July 20, 2020 in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
