Mr. Eddie Jonathan Deatherage, 55, passed away August 31, 2017. He was born in Forsyth County to Shelby Nelson Deatherage and the late John William Deatherage.
He graduated from North Stokes High School in 1979 and went on to attend NC State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Textile Chemistry in 1985.
He met the love of his life, Joanna Garrett in 1990. They were married September 18, 1996 in St. John, US Virgin Islands. To that union, two sons, Eddie Jonathan Deatherage, II and Jalen Garrett Deatherage were born.
Eddie was a mentor and coach to many young boys in our community through Pop Warner Football and WCCC Basketball for many years. He loved each and every one of the boys he coached as if they were his own and would have given the world to help them succeed in achieving their dreams. He had a passion for helping these young men in their own unique way no matter how big or small the needs were. Not only was he a blessing to their lives but they greatly enhanced his life as well.
He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Joanna Garrett-Deatherage; sons, Eddie Jonathan Deatherage, II and Jalen Garrett Deatherage; his mother, Shelby Nelson Deatherage; mother and father-in-law, Joan and Jack Hicks; sister-in-law, Lauren Hicks; two brothers-in-law, Michael (Vickie) Hicks and Brandon Hicks; nephews, Corbin Hicks, Chandler Hicks, and Jack Hicks; his two best friends, Thad Moser and John Pulliam; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00am Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Old Town Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the family at www.gofundme.com/pauz9cys the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, or the Pop Warner Little Scholars Organization.
