Mr. Ed Cross was born to Rev. Oscar Edward Cross and Sarah Williams Cross on September 1, 1939 in Marion, South Carolina. He was educated in the Marion County Schools in Marion, South Carolina.
Ed was married to Elizabeth Hemmingway, his childhood sweetheart on January 14, 1960.
He was employed with the City of Winston Salem in the Utilities/ Water Department as a laborer and later as a foreman until he retired from the City of Winston-Salem after 30 years of service. He was also employed with Hanes Mall and later with US Airways as a security guard.
Ed gave his life to Christ at an early age. He became a member of Macedonia Holiness Church TVPH (now Macedonia Worship Center) in 1970. He attended faithfully and was a member of the Deacon Board until his health began to fail.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lorraine Denise Cross; five brothers, Edward Cross, Fred Woodberry, Willie Cross, Major Cross and Oscar Cross, Jr; four sisters, Clara Williams, Mary Alice Cribbs, Sarah Gady and Marjorie Ivory; and three sons-in-law.
Ed Cross leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Elizabeth Cross of 66 ½ years; three daughters, Sarah Cross McRae, Flossie Cross-Simmons, and Twann Cross (Nikia Speas); five grandchildren, Charles McRae, Christopher McRae, Rufus Shanks, Jr., Precious Simmons, and MacKinya Simmons; six great grandchildren, Makia McRae, Jayda Shanks, Jamiya Shanks, Dre’Von McRae, Kendrick McRae, and Azariah Deleon; three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Minnie Mason of Marion, SC, who was his caregiver and who took amazing care of her brother; his God sister, Annie Davis of Marion, SC; special friends, Fred Cooper, William Rhodes, Deacon Bobby Sinclair, and Vincent N. Sherard; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, October 9, 2026 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Macedonia Worship Center. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:00noon on Saturday at the Church. Entombment will be held in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
