Dwight Cornell Malloy, 68, was born on August 26, 1954 in Winston-Salem, NC to Nelson Malloy, Sr. and Rosa Lee Hill Malloy. He passed in peace at home with his wife by his side during an extended illness on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 under Hospice Care in Garner, NC.
Dwight attended the local public schools and was a graduate of East Forsyth High School Class of 1972. He attended Kittrell College and then served in the United States Army. He retired from Atlantic Countertops Company in Raleigh, NC in 2020 after 30 years of service as a design cabinet maker.
He enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of pro football, college football, and attending Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) homecoming games until his health failed. Playing basketball with his nephews, Dennis, Jr. and Eric every chance he got was enjoyable with his co-workers and friends.
He lived a simple life of being honest and humble to everyone he met, always ready to lean a helping hand. Most of all he had a soft-spoken voice and a quiet spirit while showing love to all. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to various places, and visiting family and friends.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Forrest S. Malloy.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 47 years, Sherlyleen Dix Malloy of the home; brothers, Nelson Malloy, Jr. and DeNorris Malloy of Winston-Salem, NC and Stewart (Claudia) Malloy of Village, FL; sister, Brendora M. Petree of Winston-Salem, NC; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leon and Cornelia Dix of Bernville, PA, Alvin and Shelley Dix of Radnor Township, PA, Perry and Lois of Bear, DE, Joanne Dix of Philadelphia, PA, and Matthew Dix of Philadelphia, PA; mother-in-law, Mrs. Ann Dix of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Friday, July 28, 2023 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:00noon on Friday at the Chapel.
