Obituary
Mr. Dwight Maurice Cardwell, 80, transitioned on Thursday February 21, 2013.
Mr. Cardwell is the son of Jessie Harris and the late Vernell Cardwell.
He attended the public schools of Winston-Salem, NC and was a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University. He was affiliated with Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
Shortly after graduation he was employed in the Zebulon, NC school system. He was also employed as a physical director at the Patterson Avenue YMCA. Later, Dwight was transferred to the Fall Creek YMCA as executive secretary where he retired from the YMCA in St Louis, MO.
Dwight was preceded in death by his son Dwight Maurice Cardwell Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Jones Cardwell; daughters, Cheryl Cole (Leonard), Fredda Moore, and Traci Phipps (Mark); son, Dwain Cardwell (Geny); 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a special cousin, Johnny Jones; and many other cousins and friends.
Memorial services will be held on at 1pm Monday, February 25, 2013 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Winston- Salem NC, with Dr. Serenus T. Churn, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm until 1pm on Monday at the Church.
