Dwayne Leander Hughes was born on October 28, 1960, in Winston Salem, NC and was called home to glory on Wednesday August 28, 2024.

In his early adult years, he was a seaman in the United States Navy. Following his retirement from the US Navy, he was employed by the City of Winston Salem, S.M.O, and Winston Salem Forsyth County School System. He attended Greater Community Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by this his father, William B. Hughes; his mother, Geraldine Hughes; his two brothers, William, Jr. & Paul; and his stepson, Steven Harvey.

Dwayne leaves his legacy to live on through a devoted wife, Sandra; his only daughter, Ariel; his three grandchildren, Zariah, Hilton, and Dallas; brother-in-law, Robert Harvey; siblings, Larry (Tina), Sylvia, Renee (Curtis) James, Sherry, Michelle Parrott and Vanessa (Nathan) Johnson; he also leaves to cherish his memory, a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Greater Community Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Melvin L. Frazier officiating.  The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Wednesday at the Church.  Interment will be held at 11:00am Thursday, September 5, 2024 in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
