Durant Davis was born to the late Addie Bell Phillips and Legrand Davis in Marion County, SC on January 1, 1936. He departed this earthly life to be with God on June 21, 2018 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home with his family by his side.
Durant was educated in the public school system of Mullins, SC. He moved to Baltimore, MD where he met and married the love of his life, his soulmate of 45 years, Ms. Pauline Barkley. Together they shared a blended family of 9 children.
Durant worked for Johns Hopkins Hospital 40 years until his retirement in September 1994. Durant moved to Winston-Salem, NC in 1999 and became a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served faithfully.
He was an excellent provider for his family. He loved to work in his garden and take long walks. He was a wonderful cook and was also well loved and respected by his neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Davis; and sisters, Ida Mae Rush and Annie Ruth Winstead.
Durant leaves to cherish fond memories his loving wife, Pauline; eight of his children, Kathleen Weaver, Roy Baker, Lorraine Coleman, Donna Baker, Doris (Richard) Shorter, William Baker, Christopher (Renee) Baker, and Crystal Baker; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Agnes Hughes, Henry Davis, Franklin Davis, Legrand Davis, and Clarence (Margie) Davis all of Mullins, SC, and Gary Lee (Rose) Graves of Fayetteville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John Mendez officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 11:30am on Saturday at the Church.
