Douglas Charles Martin, Jr., 62, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at his home. Doug was born November 22, 1955 in New Orleans, LA to Douglas Charles Martin Sr. and Constance Martin (Derbigny).
He was awarded a full academic scholarship to attend Columbia University and received his bachelor's degree in 1977. Douglass continued his education earning a Master's of Business Administration from University of Southern California in 1979. He was married to Sheila Owens and fathered three children, Jennifer, Jarrett, and Nicholas Martin. He later married Teresa Bell and became step-father to Alycia and Anthony Polzine. Doug had a successful career in financial management with RJ Reynolds for 18 years where he was the first black Finance Manager for Information Systems. He then started JANAI Management Consulting with his wife Teresa where they provided business development, planning, project management, financial analysis, and systems consulting services. Doug also served as a business professor at Forsyth Technical Community College and board member for GOLER Community Development Corporation. Doug held a wealth of knowledge and was often called upon by friends and business partners alike for his expertise. He was a respected member of the business community and a beloved professor. Doug was active in his church and enjoyed cooking; good music; singing; his furry friends, Sable, Kahn, and Bebe; and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by Jarrett M. Martin and Alycia A. Polzine.
Doug is survived by his wife, Teresa Bell Martin; daughter, Jennifer (Kenny) Lincoln; son, Nicholas (Charmekia) Martin; step-son, Anthony (Eyris) Polzine; parents, Douglas Martin, Sr. and Constance Martin; sister, LeSandra Martin Abraham; grandchildren, Karson, Ivianna, and Kingston Martin; close friend, Paris Bradsher; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Services will be held at 6:00pm Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Hope Community Church, 4660 Brownsboro Rd. W-S, NC. The family visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 6:00pm on Thursday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the American Heart Association.
