Obituary

Douglas Andrew Gilliam, Sr. passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2009. He was born December 22, 1974 in Windsor, NC to George Gilliam and Fannie Riddick Gilliam.
He graduated from Bertie High School in Windsor, NC in 1993 and received his bachelor's degree in education from Winston-Salem State University. A dedicated teacher, Mr. Gilliam was employed by Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System.
He was a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and was president of the Laymen's League and an active member of the Sunday Church School.
Survivors include his wife, Jerri Allen-Gilliam; his son, Douglas Andrew Gilliam, Jr.; his parents; his mother-in-law, Laura H. Allen; father-in-law, Jerry C. Allen; two brothers, George E. Gilliam of Baltimore, MD and Dwayne E. (Anita) Gilliam of Edenton, NC; two sisters, Fannie G. Williams of Windsor, NC and Anita G. Brown of Williamston, NC; a sister-in-law, Jermonia (Patrick) Allen-Smith; three nieces; five nephews; eight aunts; eleven uncles; two great-nephews; and one cousin-sister, Trinna Blackmon; special friends include, Raymaze Barnes of Maryland, Warren Glover, Sr. of Winston-Salem, NC, Kenan Shepherd of Roanoke, VA, Sybil Langley, April Youngblood, three Golden Girls and many other relative and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at Noon Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Mount Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Serenus T. Churn, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will he be held from 11:30am until Noon on Saturday at the Church.
