Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Womble, daughter of Henry and Viola Fletcher Gwyn was born on Wednesday, May 12, 1910 in Winston-Salem, NC. She peacefully transitioned in the afternoon of August 18, 2010 to her heavenly abode surrounded by her immediate family and friends. Her secondary education expectations were achieved upon graduation from Atkins Senior High School. While in Winston-Salem, she was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. After relocating to New York City, she earned a cosmetology degree. She was a practicing Hebrew Israelite in New York City. She was married to the late Owen Luchion Womble and to their union, two sons; Ercil Milton Womble and Larry Wayne Womble were born.
Those who preceded her in death included her parents; her spouse; her son, Ercill Milton Womble; and brothers, Shirley Milton Gwyn and Zella Harley Gwyn.
Remembering her life and legacy are her son, Larry W. Womble; grandsons, Daryl Womble and Jamaal Womble all of Winston-Salem, NC; great grandson, Solomon Womble of Burlington, NC; devoted niece and companion, Anita Patrice Gwyn; nephews, Joe Arthur Gwynn of Detroit, MI, Durwood Gwyn of New Jersey, and Bernard Foster of Ohio; brother-in-law, Bobby Womble of Gholston, NC; and other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1711 N. Claremont Ave. with Dr. Dwight Hash, officiating and Rabbi James Byers, eulogist. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:30pm on Tuesday at the Church.
