Dorothy Grimes White, 92, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 7, 2022.
Dorothy White was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the late Earlie H. Grimes and Mattie S. Grimes. She was the wife of the late Reverend Thomas White Jr. who preceded her in death in 2020 after 60 years of marriage.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother, Aldine Grimes; and sisters, Martha G. Holland and Georgianna Coletrane.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Gloria (Michael) Kimbrough and stepson, Shanthony Moss both of Winston-Salem, NC; three grandchildren, Timothy Grimes, Melissa Kimbrough, and Samuel Howard; 2 great-grandchildren, Danielle Kimbrough and Derrick Kimbrough; a great-great grandchild, Korrin Kimbrough; nephew, Larry (Carol) Williams of Lake Orion, MI; a devoted niece, Aldine (Otis) Rucker; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dorothy graduated from Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, NC and after graduation attended McLean Secretarial School. She worked in retail and was a homemaker. She was a caregiver for her mother until her mother's death.
Dorothy professed her faith in the Lord as a teenager. She became a faithful member of Mt Carmel Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC where she later served as church secretary. She was also a member of the choir, Missionary circle, Progressive Club, Deaconess board and a supporter of other ministries.
Dorothy White, a member of First Waughtown Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC served as a member of the Deaconess board and the Mass Choir. She truly loved singing with the Mass Choir.
Dorothy loved music from an early age. She sang soprano with her father and sister, Georgianna on various programs and occasions. Dorothy was known for her recitation of poems by Paul Lawrence Dunbar. Most of her life she was a picture puzzle enthusiast. She always enjoyed her family. She loved the Rucker family weekly prayer conference call and loved attending the GHLTS family reunions.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Monday, September 12, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Dennis Bishop, Pastor of First Waughtown Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Tuesday at the Chapel.
