Obituary

Dorothy Mae Stephens Witherspoon, 86, daughter of the late Hosie and Lizzie Stephens was born April 4, 1936 in Winston-Salem, NC. She departed this life peacefully at her home on July 19, 2022.

Dot was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools.

Mrs. Witherspoon was preceded in death by her 13 siblings; and son, Bernard Witherspoon.

She was a retired employee of Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Sterile Processing. She was also a former employee at Bethlehem Day Care Center.

Dot joined New Bethel Baptist Church at an early age. She was a Gold Star member , a member of the Bereavement Committee, Journalistic Society Elizabeth Missionary Group and Sunday School Class #7.

Her community involvement included the Order of The Eastern Star Queen of Olympic # 620 PHA, Sethos Court #105, Daughters of the Imperial Court and Past Commandress of Sethos Court #105, Daughters of the Imperial Court.

Left to cherish fond memories are four children, Reginald L. Witherspoon of the home, Jackie Posey (John) of the city, Donna Witherspoon of Atlanta, GA and Kevin Witherspoon (Mae) of the city; five grandchildren, Reginald L. Witherspoon, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Tiffany Hendricks of Killeen, TX, Deanna and Sharee' Posey of Greensboro, NC, and Steven Witherspoon of the city; two great grandsons, Khaleb Posey and Steven Witherspoon, Jr.  of the city; two devoted nieces, Lisa Myers and Pricilla Stephens; devoted nephew, Edward Williamson; special friends, Dot Shipp, Molly McClain, Mattie Glenn, Earline Benton, Frankie Greene and Willie Mae Downing; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Friday, July 29, 2022 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Kendall Jones, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Friday at the Church.
