Ms. Dorothy McQueen was born on November 12, 1948 in Winston-Salem, NC to Dorothea Godfrey and Thomas Williams. Dorothy, a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, went home to be with the Lord on April 5, 2014.

Dorothy was a graduate of Paisley High School, Class of 1968. She also attended Forsyth Technical Community College and received certification for Early Childhood Development. She was a former employee of Forsyth County as well as the WSFC school system.

Dorothy was a woman strong in will and heart. She had an unmatched zest for life. She was compassionate, always encouraging, and kind to all. Everyone who knew and met her always loved her infectious laugh. She was a food connoisseur and enjoyed cooking for the family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothea Godfrey, a nephew, Travis McQueen, a niece, Twanna McQueen, a great-granddaughter, Miracle Potter, and great-grandson, Nehemiah McQueen.

Dorothy leaves to cherish with fond memories her devoted children, Joseph "Joe-Joe" McQueen and Sherry M. Switzer "Tootsie" of Winston-Salem, NC; her loving and loyal twin sister, Ms. Doris McQueen; Ms. McQueen also leaves her precious grandchildren, Shequia "Noonie" McQueen, Sam Switzer, Jr "Punny", and LaTeya Potter; great-grandchildren, Lateria, Kamashia and Montrell Potter; one niece, Shelby Carter; great-nieces, Latriesa Carter, Tyianna and Tenesha McQueen, and Teresa Jones; great-nephews, Leonard Carter, Christopher and Dante Jones; her companion of 30 years, Roy Williams; a great friend, Jackie Crumblin; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday, April 11, 2014 at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church with Bishop Todd Fulton officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 1pm until 2pm on Friday at the Church.
