God blessed the union of Johnny and Della Jones with their firstborn, Dorothy Jones, on August 24, 1925 in Kershaw, SC. God's call to end this earthly life came on November 27, 2017 while but for a brief stay at The Canterberry at Cedar Grove, NJ; away from her 516 Bergen Street, Newark residence.
Miss Jones childhood was spent in Winston-Salem, NC where she attended Gospel Tabernacle Holiness Church. She was a converted Catholic at time of death. She loved the Lord and often referred to Jesus as "JC". She spoke often of his unchanging love for her/you.
She attended the public schools in Winston-Salem. Miss Jones left Winston-Salem and landed in Newark, NJ where there was family. She was retired from the Newark City School System after years as a Crossing Guard at 13th Avenue School.
In her spare time she enjoyed Bingo and traveling before she became ill. Miss Jones was an Eastern Star Prince Hall affiliation in NJ; and was an active worker with the Newark City elections board specifically the National Democratic Committee.
She leaves to mourn her memory one sister, Mary Alice Warren of Winston-Salem; four nieces, Dianna Eller, Laura (David) Brewster, Regina Wilkins, Denise Kelly; two nephews, Timothy Chalmers and Godosakahi (Venita) Wilkins; two paternal aunts, Verna Jones and Kurlee Jones, both of Newark, NJ; one Godson, Sean Croswell of Newark, NJ; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Dorothy Jones will be held at 11:30am Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Gospel Tabernacle Holiness Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 11:30am on Thursday at the Church.
