Doris Carter Williams was born February 4, 1933 to Robert and Minnie Carter. She passed away Sunday, December 28, 2025 at the residence of her daughter, Denise Campbell, surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones.
Doris was a graduate of Atkins High School-Class of 52. She later attended LaMae Beauty College and Rutledge Business School. She retired from Today's Child/Novant Health. She finished her work history caring for Ms. Rose Moser.
"Mama", "Mama Doris", "Nanny", "Shabooty", "Granny", "Dusty", "Too Short", or just "Ma", to know her was to be blessed. She would open her heart and her home to everyone.
Doris was preceded in death by two daughters, Antoinette Lavern Ford and Sherri Smith.
She is survived in death by her four children, Lisa (Maurice) Gray, James Smith, Jr., Denise Campbell, and Len (Geraldine) Smith; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two siblings, James Carter and Bobbie Payne; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members; and a loyal friend, Jean Moser.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, January 5, 2026 at First Waughtown Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Monday at the Church.
