Mrs. Doris Smith Monk of Winston-Salem was taken by God to Heaven on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007. Doris was the first born to Annie M. Smith and the Rev. Harry Alexander Smith. A graduate of Atkins High School and Winston-Salem State University, she began her teaching career in Lexington and later retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System, where she taught for many years. She was a faithful member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church. Doris loved her family and church and looked forward to gardening each year. Her father, and brother Harry A. Smith Jr. preceded her in death. She is survived by her mother, Annie M. Smith; a sister, Veronica Crumblin (Charles); a niece and grandniece, Kesha and Kendalyn Crumblin; nephews, Kamal Crumblin and Nathan Smith; aunts, Mildred Reid and Edna Johnson (Johnny); an uncle, Ernest Smith (Dena); a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Donald Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Monday at the church.
