Mrs. Doretha Hines Coates, 69 of 5086 Lansing Drive departed this life on Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Coates was born to Irvin Hines, Sr. and Daisy Mae Harris Hines on February 23, 1941 in Winston-Salem, NC.
After graduating from high school, she worked at WFU/Baptist Medical Center in the Central Supply Department and as a C.N.A.
She married William Roscoe Duck, Jr. who preceded her in death and from this union a son, William Roscoe Duck, III. was born.
She later moved to Baltimore, MD to reside in 1973 and there she met and married her second husband, Carl Coates, Jr. He also preceded her in death.
In 2008 Mrs. Coates moved back to Winston-Salem, NC.
Mrs. Coates was also preceded in death by her sister, Doris Thomas; a brother, Irvin Hines, Jr.; and a grandson, William Roscoe Duck, IV.
She is survived by her son, William (Phyllis) Duck, III; six sisters, Bernice Bloxom, Gwendolyn Faust, Velma (Walter) Foster, Margaret (Greg) Lowery, Pastor Margaretta (Robert) Moore, and Carrie (Theodore) Weldon; one brother, Bishop Nathaniel (Ruby) Hines; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday, August 28, 2010 at the Upper Room Church of God in Christ Jesus with Pastor Aldine Ingram, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 1pm until 2pm on Saturday at the Church.
