Mr. Donald Foster, Sr., 86, transitioned peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2020 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law. He was affectionately known to many as "Big Boy," "Don," "Uncle Donald," and "Papa" to name a few. He was deeply loved, greatly admired, and tremendously respected. He was also an excellent role model. His knowledge, his wisdom, and his leadership served as an inspiration to countless numbers of people within and outside of the community.
Donald was born, raised, and lived all of his life in Winston-Salem, NC. He was the youngest son of the late Frank Foster, Sr. and Ethel Scott Foster. His brothers, Frank Foster, Jr. and William Foster, and his sister, Doris Stinson preceded him in death. He was united in Holy Matrimony with the late Lovell Goodwin Foster, and from this marital union of 48 years was born three children. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and leaves to cherish his wonderful memories: three sons, Donald Foster, Jr. (Erica) of Knoxville, TN, Archie Foster, and Benjamin Foster (Laverne) of Winston-Salem, NC; three granddaughters, LaQuasha, LaTina, and Torie; four grandsons, Jay, Greg, Denzel, and Joshua; three great grandchildren, Londyn, Bryant Levi, and Star; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Donald graduated from Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, NC. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from North Carolina A&T State University and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He also furthered his education at Clark Atlanta University and Tuskegee Institute. He served in the United States Army for four years. He had a long career in education and taught various sciences at Philo Junior High School, Kennedy Junior High School, and Mt. Tabor High School where he had the opportunity to be a father figure to many students. He was also a faithful member of Saints Home United Methodist Church until his health declined. He enjoyed travelling and spending time with family (especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren), completing crossword puzzles, watching westerns, and listening to oldies.
