Obituary

After courageously facing the challenges that life, as we know it, had to offer; our beloved husband, father, brother, Pastor, and friend answered that great call from our Father God to receive his reward early Thursday, October 4, 2007. Rev. Donald L. Salley was born June 23, 1961 to the late Rev. Daniel B. and Lillian Brabham Salley. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Priscilla Salley and Patricia Salley. He was called to Pastor the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church of Winston-Salem, N.C. in January 1990 and was officially installed June 10, 1990. Through the teachings of Pastor Salley and the direction of the Holy Spirit, the Morning Star family can look to God for comfort and express our thankfulness for the creation of such a powerful leader, anointed Pastor, and distinctive man of God. He was a former member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church and Mercy Seat Holy Church.

Pastor Salley was a graduate of Parkland High School, and attended Rutledge Business College. He was a former employee of Hanes Dye and Finishing before becoming full time Pastor at Morning Star Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memories; his loving, devoted wife and best friend of 24 years; Jeanine Edmond Salley, his daughters; Tamara Salley and Shamry Salley of the home, two sisters; Ethel Salley, and Avenell Jeanette Salley (Kareem) Holt of the city, two brothers; Pastor Daniel (Co-Pastor Barbara) Salley, Jr. of White Plains, Maryland and Richard (LaMaretta) Salley of the city, his devoted Armour Bearer; Rev. Reginald Harris of the city, his closest friends; Rev. Reginald Coleman, Rev. Jesse Jones, Joe Adams, and Robert Galloway, Jr. all of the city, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, cousins, friends, and the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church family.

Homegoing services will be conducted on Monday, October 8, 2007 at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church at 12 noon, with Rev. Dr. Samuel J. Cornelius. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be held on Monday, at the church from 11:00 am until 12 noon. "A Prophet Hath Been Among You."
