Donald Lee Mebane departed this life on Monday, March 11, 2019 after a short period of illness. Donald enjoyed all sports, particularly fishing. His favorite football team was the Carolina Panthers and his favorite basketball team was the Golden State Warriors. Also, Donald Loved baseball, and his favorite team was the Atlanta Braves.

Donald Lee Mebane was born March 21, 1951 to Pearlie Savage and Leonidas Mebane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Reynolds and Ralph Savage. Donald was a native of Jacksonville, NC and graduated from Winston-Salem State University in 1974. He was employed by Agriculture Extension Services where he served faithfully for over 30 years and retired in March 2013.

Donald leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Vanessa Higgins Mebane; three brothers, Raymond (Betty) Savage, Lawrence (Gale) Mebane and Phillip (Lucinda) Mebane; four sisters, Dorenda (Andrew West), Carolyn Mebane, Rachel (Clifford West), and Cassandra Mebane; two sisters-in-law, Jackie (Roosevelt) Kellum and Sandra (Rev. Richard M.) Hickman; two brothers-in-law, Calvin (Kathy) Higgins and Dennis (Teresa) Higgins; his nephews, Raymond (Angela) Savage, Lymuel (Tameerah) Mebane; and a host of nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Tuesday at the Church.
