Mr. Donald T.J. Matthews was born May, 1, 1930 in High Point NC to the late Winburn Z. Matthews and Sallie Pearl McCollum Matthews. He was a faithful and loved member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church, Kernersville, NC.

He graduated from Carver High School and joined the United States Army. "Don" or "Donnell" as he was known, retired from Burlington Sock Company in Kernersville, NC.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Mason Thomas; son, Charles Matthews; and sister, Clarissa Daniels.

Left to cherish his memory is one daughter, Lavonne Matthews; grandchildren, Ariscia Matthews, Charvina and Vannette Matthews, DoNice Minor, and Anthony Brooks; several great- grandchildren; a dear, loving and caring special friend, Mrs. Sarah Wright; and a host of other cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Monday, January 25, 2016 at St. Paul United Methodist Church 3898 Kernersville Rd. W-S, NC with Reverend Oscar Pilson officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 11:30am on Monday at the Church.
