Donald Lee Jones, also known as "DJ or Hot Eye" whom embodied an infectious personality, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born March 25, 1946 and was a lifelong resident of Winston Salem, North Carolina.
He was a lifetime member of Hanes Memorial CME Church where he faithfully served as the chairman of the Trustee Board, Usher board and the Men's Chorus. Donald was a proud "Camel" graduate of Atkins High School class of 1964 and was a member of the Big Four Choir until his health declined. He attended Winston Salem State University. He was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 35yrs of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie McBride Jones, Sr. and Dollie Corine Jones; and his sister, Annie Deloris Burnett.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Laura S. Jones and their loving daughter, Donna Jones (Maurice) Taylor of Charlotte, NC; son, Donald (Roslyn) Young; daughters, Cheryl (Leon) Massey, DeeDee McCoy (Michael) Foster, and Keisha (Ryan) Horton all of W-S, NC; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Willie (Dorothy) Jones Jr.; two sisters, Gwendolyn (George) Fulp and Beverly (Nathaniel) Little; brother-in-law, Jackie Burnett all of Winston Salem, NC; a loving nephew, Anthony (Karen) Jones; three devoted friends, Melvin (Crystal) Jones, Tremus (Gwendolyn) Russell, and Carson Underwood; a dedicated caretaker, Cheryl Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, May 12, 2017 at Hanes Memorial CME Church with Reverend Willie Mae Carson officiating and Reverend Clarence Cox, III eulogist. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Friday at the Church.
