Obituary

Donald Ray Jackson, Sr.

“The Man. The Myth. The Legend.”

On February 27, 2026, Donald Ray Jackson, Sr. closed his eyes and peacefully departed this life. In that sacred moment, his soul returned to God, and the legend of “Big Don” was forever sealed in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Much like the stories told of great figures in history, the memories and experiences shared about Big Don will continue to grow, painting a picture of a man larger than life—strong, unforgettable, and deeply loved.

Though some stories may one day sound almost mythical, they will always be rooted in the truth of who he was: a devoted father, proud grandfather, loyal brother, and a man whose presence left a lasting mark on everyone he encountered. As long as a Jackson lives, so too will the legacy of Donald Ray Jackson, Sr.

Donald was born on October 8, 1947, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to Fannie Lee Jackson and John Leroy Thomas. He attended Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and was a proud graduate of Carver High School, Class of 1965.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children, Donald R. Jackson, Jr., Arthur B. Jackson, and Donyell R. Hearts (Brewington). He is also survived by his siblings, John Jackson, Ronnel Jackson, Linwood Jackson, Vicki Jackson, Linda Jackson, Mona Jackson, Almeta Thomas, Cornelia Thomas, and Michael Thomas. Donald was a proud grandfather to, Corey Simmons, Cyrus Jackson, Tynan Jackson, Calab Jackson, Tristen Jackson, Cameron Jackson, Destiny Jackson, and Connor Brewington, along with a host of great-grandchildren who will continue to carry his legacy forward.

Big Don’s life was defined by strength, character, and the deep love he had for his family. His presence could fill a room, and his stories, laughter, and wisdom will live on through the generations that follow.

Though he has departed from this earthly life, his spirit remains alive in the hearts of those who loved him.

Rest peacefully, Big Don. Your legacy lives on.
