Obituary

Donald Maurice Alexander was born August 16, 1935 in Winston-Salem, NC.  He is the oldest of three sons born to Howard Alexander and Bernice White Alexander at City Memorial Hospital.  Donald departed his earthly home to go be with the Lord and his wife Annie on Friday, February 04, 2022.

Donald was raised and educated in Winston-Salem. He attended several schools and graduated from Carver High School in 1953.

Upon graduating from high school, Donald attended St. Augustine's University in Raleigh, NC. Donald graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor's Degree in chemistry and minor in mathematics. While at St. Augustine's University Donald played football, was on the track team and was a member of the Science Club.

Donald spent 2 years (1958-1960) in the United States Army where he served his country as a medical specialist. He was stationed at Fort Ord, California.

Donald also received his degree in Dental Laboratory Technology from New York School of Mechanical Dentistry in 1961.

Donald met his wife, Annie, when he was a student at St. Augustine's University and she was a nursing student at St. Agnes School of Nursing. Their love story did not begin until they had both completed college and they were both in Winston-Salem. On April 14, 1963 they were married in Clayton, NC and were committed to each other for 46 years. Donald and Annie had 3 daughters, Latanya Alexander of Winston-Salem (nurse), Debra Alexander of Mint Hill (accountant), Donna Alexander of Huntersville (dentist); and 2 grandsons, Adonis and Adam to continue The Alexander Legacy.

Daddy worked at the Alcohol Beverage Control, Fred Douglas/Model Pharmacy delivering prescriptions to local residents and Younger Dental Lab in downtown Winston-Salem prior to starting his career at Schlitz Brewing Company. Donald was a chemist in the laboratory. Schlitz would eventually become Stroh's Brewing company and daddy retired from his position when the company closed its Winston-Salem Plant in 2000.

Daddy was in a Sportsman's Club with his friends and neighbors and occasionally played golf. He loved being outdoors. We believed that was his quiet time away from living in a house full of girls.

Daddy was a member of First Baptist Church on Highland Avenue. His mother raised him and his brothers in the church and kept them very active within the church and that continued throughout his lifetime. He loved the Lord. He was ordained as a Deacon on April 21, 2002. He was also a dedicated member of the Chancel Choir.

Donald is survived by his daughters; grandsons; brothers, Reginald Alexander (Betty) of Winston-Salem and Howard Alexander (Rose) of Fairburn, GA; and sister-in-law, Lossie Brewington. He was preceded in death by his wife Annie.

The Alexander's appreciate the individual caregivers and facilities that provided care for our father. We cannot express in words our unmeasurable gratitude.

Private funeral services will be held Friday, February 11, 2022. Interment will follow in Spells Family Plantation, Clayton, NC. The service will be live streamed on the Russell Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 10:00am Friday.
