Obituary

Dolores Lavata Black McGee's appointed time by God to die was Monday March 31, 2014. Her place of peaceful transition into eternal life was at Kernersville Medical Center, she was surrounded by her children, other family members and her pastor.

She was the older of two children born to Ada and Willis Black, Sr. Her parents; brother, Willis Black, Jr.; and cousin, Raphael Black preceded her in death.

Left to cherish her memory are three children, Michael and Gayle Bullock, and Pamela Towler; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gloria Black; three nieces; cousins, Evelyn Terry (Fred), Carolyn Southall, Carolyn Black and family; and a host of others including local and out of area family and friends.

Dolores graduated from Winston Salem Teachers College and attended graduate school at NC A&T State University, Greensboro. She taught and later became a school social worker for the WSFC school system having spent 32 years before retiring.

One of her grandchildren nicknamed Dolores, "Scooter", because as he put it, this little lady was always on the move. She loved organizing "projects", most of which involved engaging people to help do things for others. She was an avid reader and loved beautiful flowers. Her other favorite pastime was enjoying activity, fun and laughter when all of her grandchildren who were the love of her life gathered around her. She enjoyed cooking and the children loved sampling her goodies especially at holiday gatherings.

A dedicated servant of the Lord, Dolores found delight in serving others, especially the underprivileged. She had a fierce spirit of compassion and never stopped giving of herself, even until near death. We will miss her.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday, April 7, 2014 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Pastor Donald Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Monday at the Church.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Paul U M Church food pantry, 2400 Dellabrook Rd. WS 27105.

The family acknowledges with sincere and deep appreciation all expressions of love, sympathy and each kind deed extended during this difficult time. May God forever bless each and every one of you. We offer special thanks to St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Medical Staff at Forsyth Medical Center, Kernersville, and the Atkins High School Class of 1969.
