We celebrate the life of Dinah Douglas Blanding, 98, who passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 12, 2008.
Mrs. Blanding retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 50 years of service. She was a faithful and devoted member of Mt. Calvary Holy Church where she served on several auxiliaries. Her life touched the community in such a way that Blum Park was renamed Blum/Dinah D. Blanding Park.
Mrs. Blanding was preceded in death by her only daughter, Mrs. Juanita Hammonds and grandson, Ferman Bernard Hammonds.
Survivors include granddaughters, Ms. Barbara J. Hammonds of Winston-Salem, NC, and Mrs. Lee Audrey Watson (George) of Forestville, MD; grandson, Harold Hammonds (Sharon) of Buffalo, NY; several great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; a devoted friend, Deborah Dickerson.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Friday, January 18, 2008 at Mt. Calvary Holy Church with Bishop Harold I. Williams, eulogist and the Reverend Tejado Hanchell officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Family visitation will be held from 11 am until 12 noon at the church.
