Dethana "Dewitt" Raleigh waited humbly until he passed away on February 16, 2024, at Summerstone Health and Rehabilitation in Kernersville, NC. Dewitt was loving, gentle and always had a smile with lots of charisma to all those he was acquainted with. After graduating from Paisley High in 1961, he decided he wanted to do something different in life, so he decided to go into the Air Force in 1961, after leaving the Air Force he lived in Detroit, Michigan where he married and raised his son and daughter and later return to Winston Salem.
During his younger years if you saw Dewitt, he would have a chess game close by, he had a passion for chess and tennis and he loved to talk. He fell in love with singing in the choir, learning and teaching the word of God, which most of it he would contribute to Union Baptist Church. Dewitt would engage in a conversation about the Bible with anyone.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Melven Raleigh Bryan; father, Novelle Dillard; brother, John Bryan "JB"; and nephews, Raphael Wright and TJ.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Bryan Raleigh; daughter, Kathryn Raleigh; grandson, Armani Raleigh; granddaughter, CarRyan Gilbert; brothers, Herman Bryan, Donald (Mia) Bryan, and Timothy Wilson; sisters, Darlene Ansley and Mary Bryan; he had numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he adored as well as a special family friend, Jack Jackson.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Union Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Wednesday at the Church.
