Mr. Desie Ray Scales departed this life on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Novant Medical Center. He was born September 24, 1961 to Brenda Scales Reeves and Pride E. Shore in Winston-Salem, N.C. Desie was educated in the local public schools and attended WSSU and Davidson Community College with emphasis on Computer Science. Desie was an inductee in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and a member of the Drumline at WSSU. He was an employee of UPS in Winston-Salem before moving to Atlanta, Ga. and continued working for UPS until he retired after 29 yrs. of service.
Desie was a very mild-mannered person and loved laughing and having fun with his cousins and extended family. Some of his favorite sports were bowling and playing chess. He was a Carolina Panthers and Las Vegas Raiders football fan, and Golden State Warriors Basketball fan. He enjoyed watching CNN.
Desie became a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church at a very young age, and remained a member until he moved to Atlanta, Ga. where he resided for 29 yrs. He returned to Winston-Salem in August of 2018 and has been under the watchful care of Pastor Yvonne H. Hines since that time.
Desie was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mr. P. Thomas Scales and Mrs. M. Dorena G. Scales; paternal grandparents, Mr. Pride L. Shore and Mrs. Carrie T. Shore; stepfather, Mr. James S. Reeves; uncles, Vernell Johnson, Rev. Tony O. Scales, and Donald Shore; and several cousins.
Mr. Desie Scales is survived by his mother, Brenda S, Reeves; father, Pride E. (Willaseaina) Shore of the city; one daughter, Jaliyah LaVette Scales of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Pride Landrey (Kimberly) Shore of Greensboro, NC; one stepsister, Geraldine Torrence; aunts, Rev. Parthenia S. (Robert) Galloway and Priscilla S. (Preston) McFarlin; uncles, Tyrone B. Scales and Thomas N. (Gloria) Shore; a host of devoted cousins and family members; devoted friends, Stacy Hairston, little Ari Travick of the city, Tim Smith of Suffolk, VA , Joe Smith, Michael Benton, Michael Gussie, Lewis Goodwin, Ben Pickett, Jr., and Maurice Spencer all of the city.
THERE WILL BE NO PUBLIC VIEWING.
Private funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2020. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
