Derrick Morgan, 43, of Winston-Salem, NC, peacefully passed away on May 07, 2022 surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with heart disease and stroke.
Derrick was born on September 22, 1978 to Valerie and Howard Morgan in the bustling city of Maryland. After Derrick graduated from Parkland High school in 1997, he pursued a degree at NC A&T. Derrick was passionate about computers and technology and loved what he did for a living. Derrick went on to have 6 or more kids, Derrick Devaughn Morgan, Jr., Rehanna Valerie Morgan, Jakiyah Nicole Morgan, Isaiah Kison Hairston, D'ericka Javaugna Morgan, and Cheyenne L'Oreal Goodwin; and one grandchild, Jamari Morgan. Derrick was predeceased by his mother, Valerie Morgan; father, Howard Morgan; grandfather, James McCullough; and Evelyn Johnson. He is survived by his grandmother and only living guardian, Levonia McHam McCullough; aunts, Carolyn Jones, Belinda McCullough, and Janet Houston (Papa); uncles, Michael McCullough, and James Anthony McCullough; cousins, Brian McCullough, Leander Houston, Anthony Hatchet, Katrice McCullough, Bettie Wiseman, Ejior McCullough, Eddie Johnson, and Andrew Bailey; special cousins, Clindell McCullough, Vickie Jones, Pasha McCullough, Achovia Jones, and Lavette James; close friends from childhood, Corey Banner, Chavis Leak, Mike Porter, Donald Branson, Tobias Moore, Stephen Wagner, Nate Truesdale, Ronald Cook, Renaldo Norris, Byron Robinson, Levern Andrews, Shermane McGriff; and other special friends who he formed relationships with through his last years, along with a host of other family and friends.
Viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, May 20, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel, 822 Carl Russell Ave, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Levonia McCullough. Repast will be held at Platinum following the Homegoing Celebration.
