DERRICK “RICK” LLOYD HOLLAND
Derrick “Rick” Lloyd Holland, 73, of Winston-Salem, NC transitioned peacefully from this life to his eternal home on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at his home with his wife by his side.
Rick was born on March 13, 1953 in Superior, McDowell County, WV to the late Deacon Charles Lloyd and Luverdia Warmley Holland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Karen D. Holland-Hairston and Mary Prather; and brothers, Charles Edward Holland, James Ivory Holland and Antoine “Tony” Holland.
Rick was baptized at an early age at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Maitland, WV. Some years later, he moved to Charleston, WV and became a member of The Metropolitan Baptist Church and sang in the male chorus. Upon moving to Winston-Salem, he joined Union Chapel Baptist Church and also sang in the male chorus there. He was very active, supportive and dedicated for the last 17 years to the New Vision Baptist Church and it’s H.B.O. (Help a Brother Out) Ministry in White Sulphur Springs, WV, where his sister serves as the founding Pastor.
He attended schools in McDowell County and graduated from Welch High School in June, 1971. He was an avid football letterman and player for the Welch Maroon Waves. He enlisted August, 1972 and served 11 years with distinction in the United States Air Force. After his honorable discharge, he attended Bluefield State College and Concord College. While there, he became a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
While in Charleston he worked as a Counselor and Security at the Job Corp Center in Winston-Salem, at Apex Asphalt Company as a Manager, Salvation Army “The Center of Hope” as a Counselor, and the Department of Social Services as Security.
Left to honor Rick’s legacy is his wife, Sharrondiane Holland; daughters, Tifany Byers, Columbus, OH and LaTwonda S. Davis, Dallas, TX; sons, Jonathan (LaShonna) Holland, Oklahoma City, OK, Michael (Tatiana) Holland, Columbus, OH, Corey (Joanna) Holland, Aurora, CO, and Rev. Kevin (Teketa) Harding, Wichita, KS; brothers, Deacon Manfred (Janice) Holland, Dunbar, WV and Michael Holland, Winston-Salem, NC; sisters, Bishop Kathie D Holland, Lewisburg, WV and Tammy Holland, Winston-Salem, NC; sister-in-law, Patricia Miller Holland, High Point, NC; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Rick will be remembered for his love of football, especially the Carolina Panthers. He will be fondly remembered for spending time with his nieces and nephews as their favorite Comedian Uncle who kept them laughing as he put a $20 bill in their hands. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, March 23, 2026 at Union Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Konnie Robinson officiating. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pjm on Monday at the Church. Interment will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, March 24, 2026 in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
