Obituary

Reverend Derioux Johnson received his call to glory on June 5, 2014. Derioux Johnson, a native of Pamplico, South Carolina, was born January 13, 1941to the late Elijah Johnson and Lelia Epps Johnson Robinson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Teenie Othean Moore.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lola Delane Jessup Johnson; two brothers, Joseph Johnson of Bronx, NY and Dr. Alvin C. Robinson, Sr. of Pamplico, SC; one daughter, Dearise Johnson Satterwhite of Oxford, NC; one son, Lowarren D. Johnson (Petronia) of Greensboro, NC; three grandchildren, Deanna, Dorian, and Cameron; other family members left to mourn his loss include his sister/nieces, Sandra McCray of West Palm Beach, FL and Terry Ophelia Moore of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sister/cousin, Alzetta (Tick) Howard Westmoreland of Greensboro, NC; aunt, Queen Ester Epps of Lake City, SC; brother-in-law, J. Ellsworth Jessup, Sr. of Kernersville, NC; sisters-in-law, Vecolia Caldwell and Yvonne Thompson (Lester) both of Winston-Salem, NC, and Joanne J. Falls of Kernersville, NC, Bennie Jessup (Jay King) of Washington, DC and Rae Jessup of Winston-Salem, NC; devoted niece, Reneé J. Rogers of Kernersville, NC; the Jessup Family, the Providence Baptist Church Family; and a host of nieces and nephews.

On February 22, 1976 he became a licensed and ordained Minister of the Gospel. In September 1977 he became the Pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Kernersville, NC. He served Providence as Pastor for 32 years. During his service as a minister he held various other positions most recent, facility maintenance at Robinwood Senior Living.

Reverend Derioux Johnson was a man called by God and equipped to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ! His interest was always to reach mankind spiritually and to make a difference in the hearts and minds of God's People.

A Praise & Worship service will be held from 6pm until 8pm on Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at First Baptist Church, 401 Oakhurst St. Kernersville, NC.

The family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to the team of the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their loving care of our beloved pastor, husband, father, and brother. We would especially like to extend our sincerest appreciation to the pastor, Dr. Stephen Martin, deacons and congregation of First Baptist Church of Kernersville for welcoming us and allowing us use of their sanctuary for the service of Reverend Derioux Johnson.
