Obituary

On December 30, 2007 God dispatched an angel to Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center to call one of his own from Labor to reward. Mr. Dennis Cleveland West of 701 W. 25th Street, Winston-Salem, NC went home to be with the Lord.

Mr. West was born April 4, 1926 to Otis C. and Ada T. West. He was retired from the City Hospital and Industries for the Blind and was a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church.

Mr. West was known in the Boston Projects as "The Dad of Lime Avenue."

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rovenia F. West; two sisters, ElMartha Louise West and Pauline W. Stephens; and four brothers, Otis, Jr., Sylvester, William, and Clarence West.

He leaves to cherish his memories five daughters of the city, Sabrina, Shelby, Teresa, Reverend Edna West, with whom he lived, and Coya (Keith) Jackson; one son, Sylvester West of Los Angeles, CA; 11 grandchildren; one devoted granddaughter, whom was his caretaker while he was ill, Dennatta (Darrel) Miller; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer (Lula Mae) West; one son-in-law; 3 sisters-in-law; a special nephew, Landis (Cleo) Kimbrough; special friends, Leon Covington, Harry Oates, Sandra Gray of Los Angeles, CA, John Bryant and "The Spades Gang"; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Noon Friday, January 4, 2008 from the Union Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend Konnie Robinson officiating and Reverend Larry Wright eulogist. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until Noon on Friday at the Church.
