Deloris Rutledge Huntley, 70, peacefully slipped into her eternal slumber on December 5, 2015 after an extended illness. She was born on September 15, 1945 to the late Eva Dale Rutledge in Winston-Salem, NC.
In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alphonso "Bo" Rutledge and Norris "Red" Rutledge; and one sister, Barbara Jean Rutledge.
She previously attended Friendship Baptist Church, First Assembly Church and ultimately found her Christian home at Alpha and Omega Church of Faith, Inc. She accepted the call of the Lord to the Alpha and Omega Church of Faith, Inc. where she served as Co-Pastor with her husband, Bishop John W. Huntley, Jr.
Co-Pastor Huntley was a woman with a big heart and a deep abiding compassion for the community which was evidenced by her tireless work with the Alpha and Omega Family Institute, Vigils For Healing, East Winston Community Garden, Alpha and Omega Annual Children's Health Fair, Alpha and Omega Annual HIV/AIDS Conference, Ashley Elementary Saturday Academy, Alpha and Omega Summer Youth Institute, Alpha and Omega Food Pantry and many other community organizations. She has received numerous community and service awards for her work and involvement.
She was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County schools and later received her Bachelor's degree from High Point University and worked towards completion of her Master's degree from High Point University. Her previous employment includes Burlington Mills, Westinghouse, Winston-Salem Urban League, and Executive Director of Alpha and Omega Family Institute.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Bishop John W. Huntley, Jr. of the home; two sons, John W. Huntley, III (Joy) and LaShun A. Huntley; one daughter, Sophia Huntley Black (Perrin); grandchildren, Niyah Huntley, Choneva Huntley, Kimberly Moore, Perrin J. Black, II, Jai P. Black, Raja Huntley, James Singletary, and Dante Eugene Singletary; great grandchildren; one devoted sister, Mamie Lawrence (Willie); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 1711 N. Claremont Ave; Winston-Salem, NC 27105 with Evangelist Mattie Young officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:30pm on Saturday at the Church.
