Mrs. Delores Dean Yancey, affectionately known as "DD, Lois, or Yancey", transcended to her heavenly home on Thursday, June 20, 2024. She was born on January 28, 1945 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Edna Mae Yancey and Robert N. Yancey, Sr.
Mrs. Yancey was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Robert N. Yancey, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Cardell Riwdy- a love lasting; a loving and caring embracement of three children, Rima Y. Yancey, Rowland D. Yancey (Kimberly), and Collette D. Kinzer; one sister, Geraldine D. Yancey; three brothers, Gregory V. Yancey (Deborah), Marshay M. Yancey (Alicia), and Tyrone E. Yancey; two sisters-in law, Mary R. Griffin (Amos) and Patricia R. Ijames (Howard); a brother-in-law, Norman T. Rowdy (Karen); a host of grandchildren (# 7), great-grandchildren (# 6), and great-great-grandchildren (# 5); special great-granddaughter, Cammarra Yancey; special grandson, JaQuarre Hailey; a special friend, Carrether Gilliam; and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins, and other relatives and friends
Delores was a graduate from Atkins High School class of 1963 in Winston-Salem, NC. She earned her LPN in 1971 from Winston Salem State University and Forsyth Technical College. Lois began working at Winston Salem Convalescent Center. She worked there for 33 years before retiring. Loving her care giving of patients, she continued private practice duty. She earned her certificate in computer technology and cake making. Delores was a member of Union Baptist Church, Bishop Sir Walter Mack, Jr., Pastor
Delores was a member of The Red Hatters for many years and will be very much missed. She also was an active member of the Eastern Stars until disabled health.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Monday, July 1, 2024 at Union Baptist Church. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:30pm on Monday at the Church.
