Decorace Ryan Hopkins, aka "Big D" of 223 Countryside Ct., Winston Salem, North Carolina was born July 22, 1990 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Sgt. Rebecca Olivia Stokes Hopkins (Ret.) U.S. Army and Rudolph Murphy (Ret) U.S Navy. He passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2020 at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
He was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church, W-S, NC.
He attended the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Forsyth Technical Community College GED Program. He was formerly employed at Bad Daddy's Burger Bar and later went on to start his own small-scale Food Truck business, where many around town enjoyed his cooking. He was a well-loved person who was full of laughter and joy. He was a loving son and father, had a soft spot in his heart for "old people and children" and could put a smile on everyone's face he came in contact with.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sgt. Rebecca Olivia Stokes Hopkins (Ret.) U.S. Army; his grandparents, Horace and Mae Bell Stokes; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He leaves to cherish his memory his father, Rudolph Murphy; sons, Decorace Ryan Hopkins, Jr. and Nicolas Smith; daughter, Zaniya Smith; sisters, Porcial Wilson (Robert) of W-S, NC, Camille Lancaster (Johnny) of W-S, NC, Bernadette Boddie (Greg) of Sunset Beach, NC, and Karen King (Arthur) of Bowie, MD; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
